Sourdough Baking – Private Class (POA)

Have you always wanted to be able to make your own delicious and nutritious sourdough bread for a fraction of the cost of buying it? Now you can learn in the comfort of your own home, using YOUR kitchen, YOUR stove and YOUR resources. Classes are either one-on-one, or a maximum of 4, in your home.

Course includes:

  • Making a loaf of bread from scratch using my simple but proven method.
  • A quantity of active sourdough starter, to make your bread on the day, and extra to keep as an ongoing starter for all your ongoing sourdough bread making.
  • Detailed instructions and information on the principles of sourdough bread making that can be applied to making all kinds of breads, including pizza, focaccia, baguettes and many more.
  • Detailed recipes for 4 different sourdough loaves.
  • A pack of essential sourdough baking accessories, including a “bakers lame” and bench scraper.
  • A list of web resources and books that you can research to continue to improve and expand your knowledge.
  • Ongoing support for times when things don’t go quite to plan. (It happens to us all!).

What it involves:

  • Classes are around 4 hours, so we try to ensure that you make the time to be as distraction-free as possible.
  • After making the booking, I will contact you for a pre-class discussion about things like what utensils and baking items you have or will need that we will use on the day, we will decide which bread you would like to make, and any other things we need to take into account. I will email you a checklist of things you will need to have and to prepare for the day.
  • I will bring all the ingredients to make the bread of your choice.
  • We will go through the process to make a sourdough loaf up to the final proving stage.
  • I will bring a pre-made dough ready to bake, so that we can skip the lengthy final proving that makes sourdough the best bread to bake. So you will end up with 2 loaves. One you bake on the day, and one you will put aside to bake the following day.
  • You do the hands-on work with close supervision and assistance.
  • In between the various stages, we will have time to go into the details of the main principles of sourdough bread making, and to answer any questions you may have. We can even watch a video of how other experts make their bread. Everyone has their unique way to make sourdough, and by ongoing experimentation you will learn to make your own bread just the way you like it.
